#TED: Michael Sandel: Why we shouldn't trust markets with our civic life?

Having a small gap between rich and poor puts our lives into the same spaces, makes us rub up against each other. We work and shop in the same places, our children go to the same schools. Democracy requires that we share in a common life, that we encounter one another. This teaches us to abide our differences and care for the common good. There's a moral and civic good that the market cannot honor.

#TED: Dambisa Moyo: Is China the new idol for emerging economies? Raising economic rights over political rights, over freedom. More state involvement, more protectionism, declining individual rights. West can compete or co-operate. Instead of haranguing China for the way it's doing things, show them if (not THAT) it can be done better.

Feminism collides with racism. White women charter what racism is. White women position themselves as equal to men. Humanism, women is staged as a universal term, excluding race. Savagery articulated as cultural difference. Human rights, women latched to men by similarity. Difference is a racial Other. Liberalism is coupled with culture, problem. Proscription of actions ignores racial Other. Shapes what practices become Tradition. How can you separate west from anywhere else, how pure is anyone's philosophy. "John Stuart Mill?"
